A RARE PAIR OF TOLEWARE ‘ESPALIER TANGERINE TREE’ SCONCES, ITALIAN, 1940s

A wonderful and rare pair of larger sized toleware ‘Espalier Tangerine Tree’ Sconces, Italian, 1940s naturalistically designed, the leafy branches set with bright fruits, the stems ‘tied’ with metal twine, the bulb holders of pretty leaf form, hand painted throughout in a chic dark green providing a lovely foil for the zingy tangerine colour of the fruits – overall condition is very good with some minor wear commensurate with age – nothing to detract in our opinion.  Very hard to find! – a great size, rare in this design and condition and stunning on the wall!  These sconces have been designed to be electrified but it may be possible to use them for candles although would probably need to be fitted with small ‘cups’ to hold the candle securely or will work with pillar style candles.  Can be wired and PAT tested – please enquire.
